The role of the

SNCT

The SNCT pursues three basic objectives:

The SNCT carries out around 300,000 vehicle inspections each year, and thanks to these inspections, the SNCT identifies more than 42,000 vehicles that present a danger to the public roads. The majority are failed because of problems with the brakes, tyres, suspensions, etc., in other words parts that are in direct contact with the road. It is in everyone’s interest that every vehicle be in good order.

Buyers of second-hand vehicles are strongly encouraged to have the vehicle inspected before finalising the purchase. The inspection is your guarantee that the vehicle is in conformity with the applicable Highway Code.

Periodic vehicle inspection includes important points that contribute to environmental protection such as carbon emissions, noise pollution and, last but not least, fluid leaks (oil, etc.)

ROADSIDE VEHICLE INSPECTION

The roadside vehicle inspection, for heavy goods vehicles, was introduced by European legislation in order to improve road safety within the territory of the European Union. Close collaboration between the SNCT and the Customs and Excise Administration ensures that the vehicle inspections carried out on heavy goods vehicles are carried out in the best possible conditions.

To this end, a mobile inspection station for heavy goods vehicles was specially developed by the SNCT in collaboration with the “Ateliers mécaniques Dostert” company, a project for which the company received a gold medal in 2006 for innovation in crafts issued by the Chamber of trades (“Chambre des Métiers”). This mobile inspection station, unique in Europe, constitutes a key factor for the success of the roadside inspection.

The SNCT’s mobile station makes it possible to verify:

Moreover, the SNCT is regularly asked by Germany, Belgium and France to help carry out roadside vehicle inspections on their territory.

It should be noted that when these inspections are carried out on heavy goods vehicles from across Europe, an average of 60% have significant deficiencies with a direct or indirect impact on road safety (braking systems, tyres, etc.)
