Preparing appropriately for
the vehicle inspection

How to determine when your vehicle inspection will take place?

In Luxembourg, vehicles are exempted from inspection for the first 4 years of circulation. After that period, you have to take your vehicle for periodic inspections.
If you have already had a vehicle inspection, the validity date of your inspection will appear at the top of the certificate. You will receive a summons from the SNCA. To keep the expiry date, the vehicle must be in good condition and the inspection is not done 56 calendar days before the expiry date.

GENERAL CONDITION

SOUND AND POLLUTION LEVEL

You can also check if there is any malfunction if the exhaust emits dark smoke or if there is any white smoke (sign of the motor overheating), black smoke (problem with the combustion engine) or blue smoke (motor consuming oil).

Technical inspection of CNG/LPG vehicles:

Have the gas fuel system checked for proper operation and the absence of significant damage to the gas tank. The technical inspection of this type of vehicle is identical to a traditional technical inspection.

It is important that you have a certificate of inspection of the CNG/LPG tank. (CNG exception: the certificate of conformity is like a manufacturer’s certificate, and it is valid for 10 years after registration).

How does the vehicle inspection unfold?

You hand us the keys at check-in and the SNCT takes care of everything 😊

When you arrive, your agent will check you in and check your appointment and your vehicle documents.
He or she will give you a ticket that you should keep in a safe place, as you will need it to recover your vehicle.

Your vehicle will then be handed over to the inspector, who will take it to the inspection area for the rest of the procedure. By way of precaution, do not leave any valuables inside your vehicle (wallet, money, smartphone, handbag, etc.).

You will be able to wait comfortably in our lounge area.

Once the inspection is complete, the inspector will return your vehicle along with the certificate and explanations as to its contents. After that, you can recover your inspected vehicle and continue safely on your way.

Repeat inspection or retest

If the inspection report shows one or more defects or failures to conform to the applicable Highway Code, the vehicle will fail the inspection.

You will be issued an inspection certificate that is valid for a maximum of 28 days, and you will have to remedy any problems identified as soon as possible. After that, you will have to bring your vehicle back to an inspection station or choose a partner garage of the SNCT to carry out the repairs and retest visit in order to save time.

During this period the certificate covers the vehicle in Luxembourg along the way:

PLEASE NOTE

If you exceed the period of 28 days, a full inspection will have to be carried out on your vehicle!
